How to Transfer a Car Title in Maine

To introduce a car title in the state of Maine, it’s a good idea to read these instructions, locate all the appropriate lines on the title, and read any instructions on the title before you start filling in the information.

Turn to the back of your Maine car title and look near the top.

  1. Under the words “Assignment of ownership,” print the buyer’s name.
  2. On the next line, print the buyer’s street address, city, and state. Next to that, there is a separate line where you can print the buyer’s zip code. Write the date the car was sold on the line right next to that.
  3. On the next line, write in the vehicle’s current mileage.
  4. Where it says “Seller’s Signature,” the seller should sign their name. On the line next to that, the seller should print their name. On the line next to that, the seller should print the date they are signing the title.
  5. If a second person co-owns the vehicle, that person should sign their name on the next line. The co-owner should print their name on the line next to that.
  6. On the next line, the seller should print their street address, city, and state. A separate line beside it is where the seller can print their zip code.
  7. Skip the next two lines. On the line that says “Signature(s) of the buyer(s),” the buyer(s) should print their name. If there are two buyers, both must fit their signatures on that line. There is a line right next to that where the buyer can print the date they signed the title.
