Documents Needed to Sell Your Junk Car in Dallas, TX

Have you had it with your old clunker? Time to junk a car in Dallas? Junk Car Medics will escort you through the paperwork necessary to free you from your burden.

Drivers License and Title Needed

Fortunately, the great state of Texas makes this a very easy process. When the helpful junkyard reps show up, this is what you’ll need:

  1. Your driver’s license or other state-issued identification: Of course the reps trust you, but this is for everyone’s protection. Can’t have someone going around selling other people’s cars. This just proves you are who you say you are.
  2. The title to the vehicle: This is pretty non-negotiable in Texas. Gotta have the title to legally sell your car. You kept track of it, though, right? Right?

If not, you can actually get a duplicate title cheaply and relatively quickly. The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles will be happy to replace the title for you. You need to fill out form VT-34 Application for a Certified Copy of Title. Take this to your DMV regional service center, pay a whopping $5.45 (as of 2015), and get your cloned title.

If you send the application by mail to Wichita Falls, Texas, you’ll only have to pay $2.00. But it’ll take longer.

Sign Over The Title

So you have the car’s title (either original or duplicate). When the salvage yard reps show up, you just have a few lines to fill out.

  1. On the FRONT, sign your name on the Signature of Owner line. (You probably could have figured that out yourself.)
  2. On the BACK, go to the Assignment of Title box. There you will:
    1. Indicate the odometer reading.
    2. Put down the date of sale.
    3. Print your name (on the line that says, well, Print Your Name).
    4. Sign your name again. Guess where? On the line labeled Signature of Seller, of course.

If multiple owners are listed on the front of the title, all of them sign and print their names. Also non-negotiable.

Get Paid For Your Car

Wait…it can’t be that easy, can it? Actually, yes. The salvagers will now take your car and pay you for it. Gotta admit, that was some pretty quick cash, wasn’t it?
