How to Transfer a Car Title in Alabama

To introduce a car title in the state of Alabama, it’s a good idea to read these instructions, locate all the appropriate lines on the title, and read any instructions on the title before you start filling in the information.

Turn to the back of your Alabama title and look near the top.

  1. Directly under the statement “Assignment of title by registered owner,” write in the date the car was sold.
  2. On the next line, write in the name or names of the buyers and their addresses.
  3. On the next line, write in the odometer reading.
  4. Where it says “Signature(s) of the buyer,” the buyer or buyers must sign the title. Note that if two people are signing, they must fit their signatures on the same line. Next to that, where it says “Of seller,” the seller or sellers must sign the title.
  5. Where it says “Printed Name(s) of the buyer,” the buyer or buyers must print their names. Again, if two people are writing in their names, both people must fit them on the same line. Next to that, where it says “Of seller,” the seller or sellers must print their names.
