How to Transfer a Car Title in Tennessee

To introduce a car title in the state of Tennessee, it’s a good idea to read these instructions, locate all the appropriate lines on the title, and read any instructions on the title before you start filling in the information.

Turn to the back of your Tennessee car title and look near the top.

  1. On the first line, enter the buyer’s name. On the second half of the line, enter their address.
  2. In the box under that, enter the vehicle’s current mileage.
  3. The seller should sign their name and print their current address on the next line. Note that if two people own the vehicle, both of them must fit their signatures on this line.
  4. On the next line, the seller(s) should print their name(s).
  5. On the next line, write in the date the vehicle was sold. On the line next to that, the buyer(s) should sign their name(s). Again, if two people are buying the vehicle, both of them must fit their signatures on this line.
  6. On the next set of lines, write the date the vehicle was sold on the first line and the buyer’s printed name on the second line.
  7. On the final line, write in the vehicle’s make, the VIN number and the value of any trade-in vehicle.
