How to Transfer a Car Title in Wisconsin

To introduce a car title in the state of Wisconsin, it’s a good idea to read these instructions, locate all the appropriate lines on the title, and read any instructions on the title before you start filling in the information.

On the front of your Wisconsin title is a colored box. That’s where you will fill in all your information. The text is divided into two columns.

In the first column:

  1. Print your name where it says “SELLER.”
  2. If you’ve moved since your car title was issued, you’ll need to fill in your new address where it says, “Print seller address, city, state, and zip if different than shown above.”
  3. Print the buyer’s name where it says “BUYER.”
  4. Please print the seller’s address where it says, “Print seller’s address, city, state, and zip.”

In the second column:

  1. Write in an odometer reading that says, “Odometer now reads (no tenths).”
  2. Under that is a short disclosure. Sign your name by the “X” under the disclosure. Add the date at the end of the same line.

You must make a brand disclosure only if your vehicle received floor damage, was totaled, or was used as a police car or taxi. The brand disclosure information is in the first column. For more information about brand disclosures, click here.
