Do New Tires Increase My Junk Car’s Value?

New tires add minimal value to most junk car offers. Buyers typically factor in $20 to $50 for a decent set of tires, regardless of how new they are. If you recently purchased tires, you’re better off removing and selling them separately than expecting a junk car buyer to pay retail value.

Why tires don’t add much junk car value:

  • Junk car buyers focus on metal and mechanical parts
  • Used tire profit margins are low
  • Removal and resale takes labor the buyer must account for
  • Many junk cars have mismatched or worn tires anyway

If your tires are nearly new, consider removing them before selling the car. A set of quality used tires sells for $200 to $400 on Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, or to a local tire shop. That’s far more than any junk car buyer will add to your quote.

Alloy wheels are different. Aluminum rims have real scrap value and resale appeal. A set of factory alloy wheels in good condition can add $100 to $300 to your junk car offer, or more if sold separately.

When getting quotes, mention if you have good tires on alloy wheels. Some buyers value them; others don’t. Compare offers to see who pays fairly for what your car includes.
